NPARU has extensive experience of microbiological analysis,
in particular for airborne contaminants, and offers a wide range of
microbiological tests. We are able to advise on the control and eradication
of airborne particulates and micro-organisms.
We work on different projects relating to the identification
and detection of micro-organisms (fungi, bacteria).
Our microbiological services include:
Environmental Sampling
-
Air monitoring e.g. the indoor air in houses, shops and
factories for the identification of fungal spores. Unexplained indoor
respiratory symptoms may be caused by microscopic fungal spores arising
from moulds located in, for example, a damp cellar or old furniture
-
Contact Plates e.g. for the control of work surfaces
(microbiological analysis) for bacteria and fungi colonies
-
Plates e.g. for measuring the effectiveness of cleaning
regimes for hospital premises (Aspergillus in particular) or working
surfaces in factories
Micro-organism Identification
E.g. Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, E.coli,
Enteroc-bacteriaceae, Bacillus cereus, Clostridium sp, Pseudomona sp,
Legionella sp, Aerobic bacteria and Anaerobic bacteria.
-
Identification of fungal colonies – as some fungi
can be identified only by cultivation in agar plates
-
Fungal spores identification
-
Total viable aerobic count – for bacteria, yeast
and mould

Quality Control
-
Monitoring the indoor air e.g. in libraries and
museums
-
Quality control of material e.g. carpets or
building material to ensure they are fungi free
-
Finger dabs e.g. control of personal hygiene for
staff working in food companies or hospitals
- Surface control cleaning
